NED Democracy Fellowship Applications
Donors Announcement
The Reagan-Fascell Democracy Fellows Program at the Washington, D.C.-based
National Endowment for Democracy invites applications for fellowships in
2012-2013. This federally-funded program enables democracy activists,
practitioners, scholars, and journalists from around the world to deepen
their understanding of democracy and enhance their ability to promote
democratic change. Dedicated to international exchange, this five-month,
residential program offers a collegial environment for fellows to reflect on
their experiences; consider best practices and lessons learned; conduct
independent research and writing; engage with counterparts; and develop
professional relationships within a global network of democracy advocates.
The program is intended primarily to support practitioners, scholars, and
journalists from developing and aspiring democracies; distinguished scholars
from established democracies may also apply. Projects may focus on the
political, social, economic, legal, and cultural aspects of democratic
development and may include a range of methodologies and approaches. All
fellows devote full-time to their projects and receive a monthly fellowship
payment, health insurance, travel assistance at the beginning and end of
their fellowship, and research support. Awardees may not receive concurrent
funding from the Endowment or its family of institutes during the fellowship period. The program does not fund professional training, fieldwork, or
students working towards a degree. A working knowledge of English is
required.
The program will host two five-month fellowship sessions in 2012- 2013: Fall

Mozaik rewarded with the highest scores from an external auditor for the sixth time
21st December 2009.
The European Commission, in accordance with its internal policy, requires regular and external audit in order to ensure successful implementation of supported projects. Mozaik recently hosted European's Commission's external auditor - Agency for Development REZ, for the Bosnian Kingdom trail project. This was the sixth, out of seven visits over 27 months of the project.
Mozaik just accepted the auditor's report congratulating us on receiving, yet again, the highest scores. We gained a mark, A (the highest score one can receive), for each aspect of this project.
Towards the end of the project, REZ will visit Mozaik to do a final audit. The project is due to finish in seven months. All audit reports, including the final one, will be delivered to the European Commission (EC). The EC will refer to these reports for any future proposals and concept papers submitted by Mozaik.
We are very proud of the fact that our professionalism is recognized by such esteemed institutions and look forward to successful collaboration with others.

21st December 2009.
Mozaik will spend the next six months working with tourist guides and info point officers from ten municipalities, following the Bosnian Kingdom trail, on enhancing their capabilities. The first initiative in accordance with the afore-mentioned aim, was held on Dec 18th, 2009. 18 participants from 9 municipalities attended a workshop facilitated by Mozaik. This was the first out of six workshops that will be organized every month. Each workshop will have a specific goal in mind in order to best prepare tourist guides and info point officers for working as professionally as possible. Examples of such workshops may include: group work/facilitation, how to organize successful activities for reviving project's authentic locations from medieval period, etc. Each workshop will be targeted towards two long-term goals: 1. To strengthen Bosnian Kingdom Trail tourist product, and 2. To equip tourist guides and info point officers as key personnel responsible for the success of this product.
The last workshop will take place shortly before project's big event "The week of Bosnian kings“, which will take place in June 2010.
The first workshop was very positive, it convinced participants that only through successful, regular and responsible participation and actions will they be able to improve this product in their communities and revive the Bosnian Kingdom trail. Participants also realized that this process was the first step in many, ensuring total independence and sustainability, of this product in their communities. Such steps will bring about sustainability of this tourist product and will strengthen the economic situation individually and jointly for BKT communities.

Bosnian Kingdom Trail Project Extension
14th December 2009.
Mozaik spent the last couple of months reviewing its Bosnian Kingdom Trail project and communicating to various tour operators in order to best design future plans and the project's existing strategy. We came to a conclusion that the project's impact would be maximized through project extension of three and a half months, to ensure that its major activities will take use of the summer months, when a greatest number of visitors come.
